Here we go, round two of the student summer detox, this week – lunches. If you tried out a few of the healthy breakfast recipes featured in our most recent blog - still think healthy eating is boring? Didn’t think so, and lunchtimes are about to get healthier and tastier so keep reading!
The typical fresher puts on an average of 15 pounds (or just over a stone!) in their first year at university, so that news may be welcoming to those of you struggling to get into your old pairs of jeans – you’re not on your own! Summer is as good a time as any to cleanse your body of all that junk food you may have been eating over the past year or so and start afresh with a healthy diet that will leave you feeling refreshed.
Thinking of going away this summer with your friends? Organising a holiday at any age can be difficult, as people have different preferences and tastes – but for students, the big issue is their budget. Some don’t even bother trying to find a holiday as they think it’s far too expensive or it’s too difficult to find somewhere everyone wants to go. However, after the stress of end of year exams and deadlines, we have just as much right as anyone else to a well deserved holiday!
For many of us University is done for the summer, and now there’s a whole four months until it starts again. What have you got planned? Catching up with old friends, enjoying the weather (if possible), relaxing, going on holiday and probably getting nagged by your parents on a daily basis - but they’ve got a point you know...
Whether you’ve been living in halls or shared housing the past eight months or so or finishing your first, second or even final year at university – all students are sure to experience similar pleasures but also perils of the typical ‘student lifestyle’. Now many of us are back in the safety of our parental homes and away from the buzz of uni life, we may come to realise how much our habits and behaviour have changed since we left. Either that or your parents point them out with slight concern…
If you’re like me, you tend to experience a tonne of stress and anxiety in the run up to a big exam. A certain small amount of stress is good; it keeps you on your toes and shows you care! However, in excess it can lead to lack of sleep, poor appetite and prolonged bad moods, which can all have negative impacts on your exam performance if not dealt with head on.
The worst bit about revising can be sitting at the same desk, at the same paper of notes for weeks on end. It’s no wonder really that we find any excuse to avoid it, my flatmate once even cleaned the fridge (!) just so she could put off doing any revision for that extra half an hour…
It’s that time of the year again, yep – exam time! Whilst many of you think you’ve got more important things to worry about than what you’re having for tea, that’s one big mistake right there. So rather than being part of the 1/3 of students who rely on their lucky underwear to get them through these next few tricky weeks, be part of the 2/3 of students who choose to eat foods that will boost their memory, brain power and concentration.
Time flies when you’re having fun, and before you know it you’ll be packing your stuff back up even though it only seems like yesterday when you moved in. Hopefully for most of you in first year at Uni, living in halls of residence has been a good experience, sure it’s never a smooth ride for anybody but hopefully you’ve had fun, met some great people and most importantly enjoyed yourself.
Maintaining a regular eating pattern at University can be difficult, with those late nights and late starts, you might feel slightly disjointed with your mealtimes which can in turn lead to unhealthy eating habits… such as snacking.
When you first start university it can seem like so much is going on at once, it can be hard to get your head around it all and personally I got quite stressed! I wish that when I started uni, I had some sort of idea of how to manage my time, how to stay … Continue reading Organisation and time management tips
It’s that time of year again, the two weeks of fresher’s have been and gone and it’s just a matter of time before the dreaded ‘fresher’s flu’ hits. The 9am starts have become a stark reality and yep, that’s right, its flu season yet again and we need to learn how to prevent, cure and look after ourselves…
DON’T PANIC. I’m not about to tell you that your student loan is actually about to triple (although, at this rate, who knows?). However, what I am about to tell you may make you one of the rarest kinds of student – the kind that aren’t overdrawn by Christmas.
When you are revising for exams, as I imagine most students are right now, you can be tempted to go for the takeaways, desserts, chocolate, anything to get you through but as great as these things are, there are other foods which will actually get your brain going and really help with your revision. You […]
Moving to a new place can be daunting for anybody, whether you are going to university and moving out for the first time, or if you’re moving from halls into a shared house, it’s always going to be strange at the beginning. I think as soon as people move out of their first home, they […]
