Three months off is a long time – a very very long time! Plenty of time to see friends, family, have a good catch up and even earn some money. However, it is also plenty of time to gain some valuable work experience in an industry your degree potentially leads to or perhaps one that […]
Not got any plans for Not got any plans for the summer yet, as a result of your cleared out bank account? Think as a student you can’t enjoy your summer break with a festival? Think again! Summer is the season of festivals, yet despite the UK weather being slightly hit and miss, we have […]
Phew – another year done and dusted. Whilst many of you are wrapping up the end of what I’m sure was a stressful exam period and having a well-deserved rest, some of you may start to think towards finding summertime work to replenish your funds (that have no doubt taken a hiding over the […]
Pizza – renowned for being the ultimate student food, not to mention the one and only cure after a big night out. In this time of need, you want something hot, delicious and made exactly the way you like right there, right then to dig into. And let’s be honest, frozen pizzas don’t seem to […]
At this time of year long and gruelling library sessions are inevitable, especially if you find working at home is too distracting. Some of you may as well call the library your second home. As the dreaded assessment period draws ever closer once again, you may be starting to look at your never-ending revision checklist. But first off, ask yourself a few questions…
Most couples nowadays have to limit the amount they spend on each other for birthdays, Christmas and day to day activities. For student couples, this can be even more difficult. So when it comes to Valentine’s Day, as much as you might want to splash out and treat your loved one to an outlandish evening out (pretending not to worry about the mounting bill) your bank account may not agree. Valentine’s Day can often mean bars and restaurants bump up the prices and restaurants will no doubt be heaving.
As many of us are now back at university, a new semester is as good a time as any to try and better yourself in areas that, perhaps in your first semester, were lacking slightly. For example, want to try and improve your attendance or grades? Maybe try and lose some of those pesky pounds you put on over the last few months? Or even being more frugal with your loan?
Around this time last year, my current housemates and I started the search for our new digs for second year. Traditionally second and third years will move out of university halls and into a private student home with a letting agency. Some universities will recommend ‘student approved’ letting agencies that deal specifically with student homes, for example, my university endorses Liverpool Student Homes.
Something that’s not the first thing that springs to mind when discussing student issues – depression. If you ask most people to sum up their student experience in a couple of words, you will most likely get something along the lines of “the best years of my life”. This is what makes depression and students so dangerous – it’s under the radar and very rarely talked about. So what about those students who aren’t lucky enough to have the same experience?
Can you feel the cold snap yet? Yep, autumn is coming – and whether you love the cold or not, fear not! Coming into season are some nutritious vegetables and fruits that will warm you up and keep you going through those early morning starts and keep the winter flu at bay. What’s more, supermarkets fresh weekly offers have started to sell these vegetables and fruits at prices that we can all afford!
It wasn’t too long ago that the news was awash with reports of the student protests, and the government’s plans to raise the cap on university fees to £9,000 a year. At the time, I was still in school and resigned to the fact that, upon reaching higher education, I would have to pay significantly […]

Obviously the main purpose of going to university is to learn, and gain that all important degree. Having said that, one of the main phrases you hear about university is the fact that it's a 'life experience'... but what does that actually mean? Asides from all the academic stuff - what do you learn?
At Uni, sometimes, you’ll either be running out of that student loan or wanting to chill out and forget the mad party nights once in a while but still want a night to spend with your friends. Movie nights are the one of the best ways to still be sociable but still have time to spend time with your friends at the same time...
