Thinking of going away this summer with your friends? Organising a holiday at any age can be difficult, as people have different preferences and tastes – but for students, the big issue is their budget. Some don’t even bother trying to find a holiday as they think it’s far too expensive or it’s too difficult to find somewhere everyone wants to go. However, after the stress of end of year exams and deadlines, we have just as much right as anyone else to a well deserved holiday!
As a student we are all constantly living off of our loans, making them stretch as far as we possibly can. However it has got to that time of year where we are scrimping and saving until it’s time to go home for Christmas, waiting to come back to start the second semester with the brand new installment of our student loan; therefore it is important to make our food to keep us fuller for longer. With December seeing the beginning of winter and the nights are fully drawn in it is important as well to make sure the food we eat keeps us not only full, but warm.
Ready meals – very much the food baby of Western Civilisation. What’s more, us Brits are the worst in Europe for stocking up on them. £1.9bn was spent on ready meals in last year alone, double that of France and even triple that of Spain. More than 1/3 of adults in the UK admit to eating ready meals more than once a week – I wonder how many of those guilty are students...
WRAP suggest that 60% of all household waste is caused by the misunderstanding of food labels. Considering the scares in the food industry lately, this is completely understandable – nobody wants to risk eating dodgy meat. However, it is not necessarily the date that is important on food labels. It is the pesky phrases that come before it that are causing the confusion.
