Firstly prepare the veg, peel and chop the swede and potato into cubes, slice the carrots and onion chunky. Put them to one side. In a sandwich bag/bowl mix the 3 tbsp of flour with a tsp of salt and a tsp of pepper. Add the beef to this mixture and coat well. Once coated add the beef to a frying pan and brown the meat but not cooking through. Once browned add the beef to a stewing pan with the veg apart from the potato, add the potato 45 minutes before the stew is cooked.. Boil a kettle and add 700ml of water to the beef stock cube, then add to the pan. If you like you can add a handful of pearl barely. Put the pan on the smallest ring and cook on full for half an hour and then turn right down and let it gently simmer for 3 and half hours. Adding more water if need be. This allows the beef to become melt in the mouth and really delicious. Serve with warm crusty bread.
