Cheesy Ground Beef Potato Bake Recipe Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Heat a large skillet over a medium heat and add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for 8 minutes, breaking up the beef as it browns.
  3. Add the garlic, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and black pepper. Cook for a minute and then drain off grease.
  4. In a large bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and sour cream until smooth.
  5. Add the sliced potatoes to another large bowl. Toss them with olive oil and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  6. Spread half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Add half of the beef mixture over the potatoes.
  8. Sprinkle on half of the green beans or peas.
  9. Pour half of the creamy sauce over the top.
  10. Sprinkle with 3/4 cup cheddar cheese.
  11. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, vegetables, sauce, and another 3/4 cup cheddar cheese.
  12. Once layered, cover the dish tightly with foil and place in the oven.
  13. Bake for 40 minutes and then remove the foil. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese on top and bake uncovered for 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  14. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
