Coca-cola Chicken

Published Saturday, 11 January, 2014 by Bekah

Who doesn't love chicken!?

  • 500 ml coca-cola (not diet, nor a cheap knock off cola actual coca cola.)
  • 125 ml soy sauce
  • 4 or more chicken pieces (skinless)
  • a little salt / pepper (to taste)

1. Place the chicken pieces in frying pan.

2. Then add cola and soya sauce.

3.Cook on medium heat, turning pieces often.

4. It will look gross when it starts cooking. Then the liquid will evaporate, and will form a glaze over chicken.

5.Cook until majority of the liquid is gone.

6.Be really careful to keep an eye on the chicken, the liquid evaporates quickly and it can burn very easily.

it takes 30 minutes to cook.

So.... The recipe said 4 "pieces" of chicken... I used chicken strips, which were fully cooked 1/3 of the way before the liquid had evaporated and become glaze like. I had to take the chicken out unless i wanted some super over cooked chicken bits mixed into a strange glaze, i stirred them around in the glaze once it was ready. It was also way to salty. I recommend instead of this recipe, using 2 cups coke, 1/4 cup soy sauce (instead of the 2 cups/500ml coke, and 1/2 cup/125ml soy sauce) and letting this boil on med-high heat for 15 minutes or so before adding the chicken. Or even grilling the chicken ahead of time and just coating it in the glaze for a few minutes afterwards. On the side i served cooked, drained chicken flavor ramen noodles mixed with some cooked frozen mixed veggies, add a little garlic salt, cilantro if you have it, and soy sauce and place the chicken on top and cover with some sesame seeds. Not amazing but a good meal for a budget/college student.

Just cooked this for my families tea, and admittedly it didn't look brilliant at first but when it came to eating it, the chicken was delicious! Really surprised me how good it was, will definitely recommend it and be cooking it again.

I really liked this recipe, oyu do have to be careful not to burn it as the liquid does evaporate really suddenly but in hole (not taking into account the appearance) its really tasty
