Cheesy Potato Bake

  • (Serves one)
  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 20ml milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Grated cheese (to taste)
  • Salt & black pepper


1. Thinly slice potatoes and add to saucepan of water. Boil until softened.

2. Cube the onion and place in saucepan with potatoes. Add the milk, cover saucepan and bring to the boil.

3. Simmer for 3 mins then drain. Butter an ovenproof dish and layer half of the potatoes (so they overlap) in it. Sprinkle half of the onions on top then season with salt & pepper.Sprinkle cheese on top.

4. Layer the remaining potato on top. Add rest of the onion and cheese. Season again with salt & black pepper.

5. Bake at 190c for 35mins or until crispy and golden.

    woh this stuff is well simple and really tasty! i recomend every recipe. by the way i agree with julie anne tinned tomatoes taste DISGUSTING! lol

    wouldnt recommend tinned onions they are rank! This is a take on potato dauphanouise really but it sounds quite nice

    I found it really nice but you have to put enough cheese in I would recomend 500g of chees because thats how much i put in the second time and it was sooo much tastier :)

    Onions are really cheap - last single onion I bought cost 16p! How much are tinned?

    Just a quick tip from an OAP (We are on a strict budget too)....Buy tinned fried onions, they work out much cheaper, are ready cooked and last for ages and are always at hand when you need them.
