Easy to make one-dish crumble

83%

Ingredients

  • FILLING
  • Apples - about 3 or 4 small ones will do for an average sized baking dish
  • Brown sugar - about a cup and a half
  • Flour - about a tablespoon
  • Cinnamon or other flavouring - about a tablespoon
  • CRUMBLE
  • Plain flour - about 2 cups, add more as you go if needed
  • Brown sugar - about a cup and a half
  • Butter - about a cup or as much as you need to get the right texture
  • SERVES 4-6 AND KEEPS (COVERED) IN FRIDGE FOR 2-3 DAYS

Method

Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 4. Peel and chop the apples into small chunks, about 1-2cm each. Add the brown sugar, flour and flavouring and stir a little to mix. Spread this evenly and thickly over the bottom of the dish you are using. To make the crumble, mix the flour and sugar in a bowl then add the butter in small amounts as you rub it in (google this if you're not sure how, it literally just means rubbing the ingredients together with your fingertips) until it looks a bit like roughly cut breadcrumbs. Spread this evenly over the filling and loosely pat it all down to even it out. Put it in the oven for 30-40 minutes depending on how big the dish is, checking it after 30 minutes regardless. The filling should be bubbling and the top lightly browned when it is done. Enjoy! :D

Loved it! Tasted amazing although it did not look physically appealing.
however i feel like some of the instructions could be clearer, for example you forgot to put "add in the apple pieces" i put them before the filling. And also i was wondering whether or not i should butter the dish/pan. The sugars seemed too much for me so i cut it down to 100g for the whole recipe and it was perfect.
otherwise, great recipe, family loved it!
