Plain Sponge Cake

A really delicious, scrumptious recipe for cake lovers.



  • 4oz/100g self-raising flour
  • 4oz/100g sugar (normal should be fine)
  • 4oz/100g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • or
  • 4oz/100g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4oz/100g sugar (normal should be fine)
  • 4oz/100g butter
  • 2 eggs


Whisk the butter and sugar.

add the eggs then flour.

mix to get a creamy batter.

put it in a cake tin with baking paper.

put it in the oven for 18-20 minutes on 200'c or more.

    Ok - now eaten and it was excellent. Now I know how to I'll bake 2 next time and spread fresh cream and jam between the 2. Sprinkle top with icing sugar. Impressive!
