At Student Recipes we love fast food, simple recipes, and ways to cut corners (and costs) when home-cooking.
One ingredient we often opt for ourselves is frozen rice, as it’s a great way to cut the challenge of cooking perfect rice each and every time.
Yet, if you’ve been shopping at Trader Joe’s and picked up a specific frozen chicken fried rice product, you need to destroy it or return it for a refund, as it’s potentially contaminated with glass.
As of February 20, 2026, Trader Joe’s published a recall notice. This has since been reported to impact roughly 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice.
AP News reported the products were pulled after four consumer complaints. However, federal officials said there have been no confirmed injuries so far.
What you’re looking for

- 20-ounce bag labeled Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice.
- Best by dates range between 9/8/2026 and 11/17/2026.
- The bags are stamped with establishment number P-18356.
It’s vital you check your freezers, as glass contamination is serious. A tiny shard can cut your mouth or inner throat. It can also become a choking hazard, and it’s not worth the risk.
Sadly, food recalls seem to be frequent. For example, the FDA recently posted a recall for Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club after potential Listeria contamination was flagged.
It expands far beyond food, too, with the CDC providing an update on a Salmonella outbreak tied to moringa supplements. This is why it’s important to monitor product recalls online.

If you find a recalled product
In most recalls, the directions are the same:
- Don’t open or use the product.
- Return it for a refund or dispose of it.
If you find something that has been recalled, check online, and you’ll find public health advice for steps to take.
The directions for the Trader Joe’s recall are:
- Do not eat it.
- Return it to Trader Joe’s for a refund, or throw it away if returning isn’t practical.
