Protein shakes are a strictly polarized category of you love them or you hate them. However, a new drink at Costco is challenging this notion and taking social media by storm.
Packed with 30 grams of protein in one can, Genius Gourmet has produced a sparkling “water” that doesn’t have the signature chalky taste of other protein drinks.

What is the New Sparkling Protein Drink?
Produced by Genius Gourmet, the sparkling protein drink has a clear appearance thanks to “ultra-filtered” whey protein isolate and a soda-like texture. Each can provides 30 grams of protein with zero sugar and no lactose and 130 calories.
The ingredient list is short, with just carbonated water, whey protein isolate, natural flavors, sucralose for sweetness, and mushroom extract for a preservative.
The whey protein isolate gives the drink a crisp finish instead of the standard creamy protein shake texture. Genius Gourmet currently has one flavor on the shelves: Blue Raspberry Lemonade.
When asked about the new drink, Genius Gourmet CEO Lance Rankin said, “This launch reflects our commitment to innovation. Consumers are asking for more convenient, better-tasting protein options, and this checks every box — clean, convenient, and craveable.”
All it takes is just one sip for fans to get hooked on the drink.
The Problem With Traditional Protein Drinks
The main issues with protein drinks are the texture and taste. Most protein drinks have a thick, viscous texture and a chalky taste, which often drives away shoppers. But these drinks are super useful for an easy protein boost, a snack to sustain your energy throughout the day, or a great post-workout recovery.
With Genius Gourmet, you can get all the benefits of protein without the chalky aftertaste.

The Response from Shoppers
The response has been widely positive for the new protein drink. It has gone viral on social media, with Costco members rushing to their locations to swipe a box and leaving comments on Instagram such as “The best!!” and “We got them today and actually loved them!! I have no idea how they have 30 [grams] of protein in them.”
Others are calling the Blue Raspberry Lemonade concoction “revolutionary” and “obsession-worthy.”
