McDonald’s has been bringing back popular menu items for months now, from the Snack Wrap that has been gone for nearly a decade to old-school Happy Meal toys. But, they’ve saved the best for the end of the summer with the McDonaldland meal.
The McDonaldland meal is bringing back all the iconic characters from the McDonaldland marketing campaigns from the early ’70s. Frolicking in a fantasy world, fast food customers will soon be doing the same after ordering this delicious meal.

What is in the McDonaldland Meal
The McDonaldland meal comes with French fries, your choice of a Quarter Pounder with Cheese or a 10-piece McNugget, and a pastel blue and pink Mt. McDonaldland Shake. The shake is a nod to the Mt. McDonaldland volcano, featuring blue “lava” and pink clouds. As of now, the restaurant chain is keeping the flavor of the shake under wraps so fans can discover the flavor.
Every McDonaldland meal also comes with a collectible tin, featuring one of the six iconic characters. The tin is filled with postcards, stickers, and other souvenirs, allowing customers to learn more about the character they get.
When Does the McDonaldland Meal Release?
The McDonaldland meal will be available in participating locations starting August 12th, as long as supplies last. To make sure you get your favorite character or just a piece of McDonald’s history, head down to the fast food chain soon after the meal’s release.
Plus, if you just want to try the Mt. McDonaldland shake, just ask an employee at the location, and they will be able to accommodate the request.

McDonaldland History
If you don’t remember McDonaldland, the setting and characters were used in commercials and restaurant decorations from 1971 to 2003.
The fantasy land is home to all of the Golden Arches characters, including Grimace, Mayor McCheese, Birdie, Hamburglar, Fry Friends, and Ronald McDonald. The full cast was slowly phased out in the early 2000s to create a more streamlined cast.
The return of McDonaldland, though, promises a deeper dive into the world, featuring Mt. McDonaldland, an important landmark and the inspiration for the new shake.
This isn’t the only time the restaurant chain has brought back characters, with other instances including the Grimace Shake, McNugget Buddies toys, and Uncle O’Grimacey’s Shamrock Shake. However, this is the first time in 20 years that the entire cast of characters is back at McDonald’s.
Other Places to Enjoy McDonaldland Merch
McDonald’s isn’t the only place to enjoy the return of your favorite characters. The chain is partnering with luggage brand Away and clothing brand Pacsun for two different items.
Away is offering free McDonaldland luggage tags and bag charms starting on August 18th, while Pacsun is selling colorful sweat sets and graphic tees on August 12th.
