McDonald’s is amping up the anticipation of new menu items with McDonald’s Pizza making an appearance in Canadian stores.
Starting in late June, McDonald’s will offer Pizza Bites in select locations, a snack-sized callback to the popular 1990s menu item, the McPizza.

McDonald’s Canada Provides a Sneak Peek
McDonald’s Canada has shared several posts across social media teasing a new menu item. On Instagram, they posted an image of a folder filled with documents, which was labeled “06-24-2025 CLASSIFIED.”
On Twitter, they have a video of a map highlighting Germany and heading West with the caption, “upload this to McD’s Canada accounts, thx bye.”
While we are waiting for the official confirmation, the hints and details from each of the posts have convinced fans that the fast food chain is bringing back pizza.
McDonald’s Pizza Bites
You may remember the full-size McPizza in the 1990s. This new version is slightly different than the original menu item. Instead, McDonald’s has created snack-friendly options to appeal to both pizza lovers and those who prize on-the-go meals, similar to burgers and fries.
The Pizza Bites were first tested in Germany under the name Pizzataschen. You can buy the bites in 3- and 5-piece orders. The bite-sized pockets contain melted cheese, zesty tomato sauce, and pepperoni flavors, all wrapped in a golden-brown crust.

The History of 1990s McDonald’s Pizza
For many, McDonald’s Pizza is just a faint memory.
The food item was last spotted on menus in the 1990s. McDonald’s first experimented with pizza in the late 1970s in stores near Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin. They started out as small, personal-sized pizzas for convenience.
By the late 1980s, McDonald’s was serving family-sized pies in select U.S. locations like Evansville, Indiana, and Owensboro, Kentucky.
In Canada, McPizza was released in restaurants around 1992, offering both sizes of pizzas across hundreds of locations. However, the menu item was discontinued by 2000, leaving several fans desperate for its return.
When Can You Buy McDonald’s Pizza Bites?
McDonald’s Pizza Bites are expected to launch in locations across Canada on Tuesday, June 24th.
This will be a limited-time item released in participating locations across the country. It is one of many items launched by McDonald’s as a push to experiment with bold new menu items while also tapping into the deep love of comfort food.

Bringing the Menu Item to the U.S.
