Chip lovers take note, Frito-Lay has voluntarily recalled a selection of 8-ounce bags of Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips.

The recall is because some bags may contain jalapeño-flavored chips with undeclared milk.

For people with a milk allergy, that’s not a small labeling mistake. It can be life-threatening.

The FDA states that the company announcement was issued on March 3, 2026, and the agency published it on March 4.

The affected bags may have been distributed from January 15 forward in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Newsweek reported that the warning included the risk of a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” for anyone with a milk allergy who eats the product. eFoodAlert also reported that the problem traces back to possible product mix-ups inside the recalled bags.

No allergic reactions have been reported so far.

I’ve seen a lot of recall notices over the years, and this one stands out because potato chips aren’t the kind of food that tend to stay in cupboards long. They’re often a household grab-and-go snack, and that’s why this allergen recall needs coverage. Someone with a serious milk allergy is unlikely to think twice about the risks of a dill pickle chip bag.

What to check if you picked up Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips

Here’s what to check on the packaging:

  • The recalled product is Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips, 8 oz. bags only.
  • Look for UPC 0 28400 761772.
  • The wording “Guaranteed Fresh” with a date of 21 APR 2026.
  • It should also have one of these manufacturing codes: 38U301414 or 48U101514.

It’s important to know that no other Miss Vickie’s flavors, sizes, or variety pack bags are included in this recall.

Miss Vickie’s is one of the snack brands under Frito-Lay, which is part of PepsiCo’s food business. Their wider lineup includes names many Americans know by heart, like Lay’s, Doritos, Cheetos, Ruffles, Tostitos, Fritos, Stacy’s, PopCorners, and SunChips. These products are not affected by this recall warning.

What is a milk allergy (and why it’s serious)?

A milk allergy is not the same thing as being sensitive to dairy. The Mayo Clinic states that a true milk allergy can trigger hives, wheezing, vomiting, swelling, and, in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is life-threatening because it can affect breathing and send the body into shock.

If you have one of the recalled bags and you or someone in your home has a milk allergy, do not open it. Frito-Lay says to discard it immediately, and consumers can also contact the company through Miss Vickie’s support page or by phone.
