MorningStar Farms voluntarily recalled two frozen plant-based products sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica because the food may contain pieces of plastic.
The recall covers MorningStar Farms Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets in 10.5-ounce packages and MorningStar Farms Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties in 8-ounce packages, according to the FDA-posted company announcement.
According to the FDA, the initial recall was dated June 18, 2026, and the FDA published it on June 22, 2026. But with July 4th weekend nearly here, families who stocked up in late June may still have these items in the freezer for holiday meals.
Additionally, the “Better if Used Before” dates on the recalled products are in July 2027. That means these packages could stay in home freezers for months if people don’t notice the recall.
Recalled products to check
FDA data shows the affected products include the following package details:
- MorningStar Farms Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets: Size: 10.5 ounces, UPC code: 000 28989 10110 5, and a Better if Used Before dates: July 07, 2027, and July 08, 2027.
- MorningStar Farms Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties: Size: 8.0 ounces, UPC code: 000 28989 10094 8, and a Better if Used Before dates: July 05, 2027, July 06, 2027, and July 07, 2027.
Why the recall happened
MorningStar recalled the products because of possible plastic pieces in the food. The FDA notice says no other MorningStar Farms brand products are affected, which is helpful for anyone who keeps several of the brand’s products in the freezer.
I know frozen foods can feel like a harmless backup plan. They’re there when the grandkids stop by, when dinner gets rushed, or when you’re trying to make a better food choice without making a full meal from scratch. Yet, plastic in food is not a recall notice you can ignore.
What to do if you have the items
People who purchased the affected products should throw them away and contact the company for a full refund. Don’t taste the food to see if it seems fine, and definitely don’t serve it to guests.
Consumers can contact Consumer Affairs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST by calling 800-962-0120 or texting 877-453-5837.
