Shake Shack is celebrating National Burger Month with free burgers. The fast-food deal started May 1 and runs through May 31, 2026, at participating Shake Shack locations.
According to Shake Shack, customers can get one free single burger with a $10 minimum order when they use the code FREEBURGER through the Shack App, Shake Shack’s website, or a kiosk inside the restaurant.
What burgers are free and when?

From May 1 through May 10, the free burger is the ShackBurger. That offer returns again from May 25 through May 31. In between, Shake Shack is offering the SmokeShack from May 11 through May 17, followed by the Bacon Cheeseburger from May 18 through May 24.
The deal is limited to one free promotional burger per order. It also only applies to single burgers, and paid add-ons like bacon or avocado are excluded from the discount.
Teachers and nurses get a separate offer

Nurses and teachers have a separate deal running through May 12. By showing a valid school or nurse ID at a kiosk, Shack Shake is giving a free ShackBurger or Veggie Shack with the purchase of another menu item.
Importantly, the terms of the offer state that the nurse and teacher deal is not valid through the app, website, third-party delivery apps, or drive-thru orders.
How to order without missing the deal
Online orders are allowed for the National Burger Month deal, but not every ordering method works. Shake Shack states that qualifying orders can be placed through the Shack App, shakeshack.com, or an in-Shack kiosk. Drive-thru orders and third-party delivery app orders do not qualify.
For the $10 minimum, the order total has to include qualifying food or drink items, not counting the free burger, taxes, delivery fees, gift cards, or other fees. Customers also need to add the eligible burger before checkout and enter FREEBURGER in all caps.
This is a fantastic deal for anyone watching their budget, or just trying to plan a treat without going overboard.
