Published Tuesday, 03 January, 2012 by Anneka

Beef as spicy as you like

  • Beef curry serves 2/3 people
  • Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 lb steak
  • 2 onions
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/2 pint beef stock
  • 2 large tomato
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp. coriander
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1-2 tsp. lime juice
  • 2/3 can coconut milk (keep remaining 1/3 for just before serving)
  • 3 - 4 bay leaves
  • Handful of chopped fresh basil
  • 2 tbsp of natural yogurt if you like it less spicy

Fry the onions with the spices. add to an oven proof dish along with beef, stock and natural yogurt. Add slightly more mild curry powder if needed. Add bay leaves, tomatoes and garlic to the dish and place in the oven at 180 degrees. The lower the heat and longer the food cooks for, the better it tastes. At 180 it will need around 45 mins.

Cook up rice and the dish is ready to serve.

Made this last night using things i had on hand as similar to the ingredients. I used the cast iron and had it on the stove then in the oven at 220 for at least 2 hours, adding and stirring here and there. Then i had to thicken the liquid with flour. This may have been the best curry i've ever made myself! Thanks for the recipe!
