Chilli Con Carne - 90p Per Serving

Cheaper and tastier than a ready meal



  • 500g beef mince (£2.00)
  • 375g can kidney beans in chilli sauce(£0.65 from tesco)
  • 2 cans chopped tomatoes (£0.31 ea)
  • 1 onion, finely diced (8p)
  • 1 tsp. Smoked paprika or chilli powder/flakes(optional)
  • 75g long grain rice (5p)
  • serves 4 - batch cooking!


1) fry the onion in a little oil for 5 mins then add the mince and brown off for 10 minutes.

2) add the rest of the ingredients and cook for 45-60 mins on a low heat

3) cook rice according to packet instructions

    Traditionally chilli should be cooked for a few hours, but 60 mins on a very low heat i find intensifies the flavour but everyone has a different taste!

    Very good, however 60 minutes is a bit long as this dries the meat too much
