cheap and tasty

  • 300g minced beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove of minced garlic
  • 1/2 a can of mushrooms (drained) you could substitute this for fresh but the can is slightly cheaper. Alternativly you could substitute for a can of cream of mushroom soup
  • salt and pepper
  • 160ml hot water
  • 1 or 2 beef stock cubes
  • 20g tomato paste/ purree
  • 120ml water
  • 10g plain flour
  • A couple of tablespoons of double cream (optional but does give it a really nice creaminess)

1. In a large pan sautee the mushrooms, garlic, onion and minced beef until the onion is golden brown. Season with salt and pepper.

2. Stir the stock cubes, hot water and tomato paste into the meat mixture.

3. Stir together the cold water and flour and then stir into the pan. Bring to the boil and then reduce the heat to low and simmer for an hour.
