Ingredients

  • 4 Oranges
  • 4 1/2 cups of water
  • 2 1/2 cups of sugar and more to coat

Instructions

  1. Remove peels from oranges. But try to keep them as intact as possible.

  2. With a sharp knife, remove the inner white pith from the orange peel. but dont worry if there is still a little bit left 😉

  3. cut peels into slices

  4. in a pot combine water and sugar and bring to a boil. let boil for 5 minutes.

  5. add orange peels. Do not touch them after this. it will form large sugar clumps!

  6. Turn the heat down low to a simmer and let simmer for 3 hours until syrup is barely covering the peels. Remember, don’t touch them 🙂

  7. take out peels and coat with sugar and lay on baking sheet.

  8. at this point you can either put them in the oven to dry them out faster, but you have to watch them because they cant cook in any way. Or you could put them on a baking sheet and let them dry overnight.

  9. If you want to put them in the oven, preheat till 200F and bake for an hour. But keep an eye on them to make sure they are not burned or cooked in any way.

  10. The best thing about this is that you don’t have to use orange peels! You can use lemon, lime, grapefruit, even ginger. It’s up to you and you get amazing results!
