Ingredients

  • 100g plain flour
  • 50g cooking butter
  • Small amount of butter to grease the tin/dish
  • 2 or 3 tablespoons of water
  • Plenty of grated cheese – cheddar/double gloucester/red leceister
  • 1 onion
  • 4 slices of ham cut into strips

Instructions

  1. Firstly make the shortcrust pastry:

  2. Rub together the flour and butter until it is grainy, then add the 2 or 3 tablespoons of water until the pastry is ready to roll out. Roll out into the shape of your tin or dish ( I used the lid off a casserole dish and it worked fine) !

  3. Next, cook the onion:

  4. Chop the onion into small cubes and place in a microwaveable dish. Then add 2 tablespoons of water and cover with cling film. Place in the microwave for 2 minutes then drain.

  5. Grate the cheese, chop up the ham and grease the bottom and sides of the dish. Then place your ingredients in layers into your dish. Add plenty of grated cheese on the last layer!

  6. Finally, place your pastry on top and push the sides down to keep all of the filling in.

  7. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes on 180 degrees.

  8. It may sound like a lot of effort but its definitely worth it!

  9. Serves 2, or 1 with a big appetite!!
