Poppy's Healthy Carbonara

A cream free, simple carbonara

Ingredients

  • 90g pasta/spagetti (or however much you usually have)
  • 1 egg
  • 25g cheddar cheese
  • 50ml milk
  • 2 slices of ham (or bacon, but ham is quicker)

Method

1. Cook pasta

2. Whisk together egg, milk and grated cheese

3. Drain pasta and tip into mixture (or drain pasta, return it to saucepan and add mixture, but this comes with the added risk of scrambling)

4. Add shredded ham

5. Serve

    So do you cook the egg, milk and grated cheese or just whisk it and leave it cold?

    Abigael317 - The egg is not raw, it's cooked by the heat of the saucepan and pasta (that's why there is a risk of scrambling)

    I made a meal based on this recipe, but used neither the cheese nor ham/ bacon.
    I'm currently eating it and finding it rather odd to be eating a pasta dish with raw egg in it. The recipe doesn't say anything at all about cooking the egg or cooking the pasta and egg-milk-cheese mixture together, so I haven't cooked it. I think Chef Poppy should edit it if the egg is supposed to be cooked.
    That being said, I like it. Perhaps it's because I'm hungry, or just because I like all the ingredients I used, but I don't think Chef Poppy is too far off track with this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
