Step 1:

  • Take the crusts off the bread and either cube it or roughly tear it apart.
  • Step 2:

  • Mince and puree your garlic, preferably with a knife not a silly garlic press (as they waste half the garlic).
  • Step 3:

  • Oil in the pan with the garlic and fry it off for a couple of minutes
  • Step 4:

  • Add your bread, toss it in the oil, or use a spatula to move it about and cook on all sides.
  • Step 5:

  • 10 minutes later, croutons! Either let them go cold or eat hot.

  • They’ll tart up any boring salad for pence, as will a bit of olive oil and seasoning. No need to buy fancy dressings to eat a tastry salad.
