Dal Methi

Ingredients

  • Ingredients-
  • 1/2 cup split pigeon peas (toor dal) or split chickpeas (chana dal) or you can use 1/4 cup of each
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • pinch of asafoetida or 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2-1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2-1 tsp jaggery grated
  • 1/2 cup tamarind juice or 1 tomato chopped
  • salt to taste
  • coriander
  • oil

Instructions

  1. -soak the split peas (dal) and fenugreek seeds for 4-5 hours.

  2. -in a pressure cooker add it alongwith water and cook it for 2-3 whistles.

  3. -in a pan add some oil.Then add the mustard seeds and asafoetida or garlic and stir fry it.

  4. -then add red chilli powder and turmeric and stir it.

  5. -then add the cooked dal.

  6. -add some water and allow it to boil for some time.

  7. -then add the tamarind juice or tomato and jaggery and boil it again for some time.

  8. -add some salt and stir it well.

  9. -finally add coriander leaves.
