Dal Methi

Ingredients
- Ingredients-
- 1/2 cup split pigeon peas (toor dal) or split chickpeas (chana dal) or you can use 1/4 cup of each
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- pinch of asafoetida or 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2-1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2-1 tsp jaggery grated
- 1/2 cup tamarind juice or 1 tomato chopped
- salt to taste
- coriander
- oil
Instructions
-soak the split peas (dal) and fenugreek seeds for 4-5 hours.
-in a pressure cooker add it alongwith water and cook it for 2-3 whistles.
-in a pan add some oil.Then add the mustard seeds and asafoetida or garlic and stir fry it.
-then add red chilli powder and turmeric and stir it.
-then add the cooked dal.
-add some water and allow it to boil for some time.
-then add the tamarind juice or tomato and jaggery and boil it again for some time.
-add some salt and stir it well.
-finally add coriander leaves.
