Dal Methi

A simple,absolutely delicious,maharashtrian (indian) dal

Step 1:

  • -soak the split peas (dal) and fenugreek seeds for 4-5 hours.
  • Step 2:

  • -in a pressure cooker add it alongwith water and cook it for 2-3 whistles.
  • Step 3:

  • -in a pan add some oil.Then add the mustard seeds and asafoetida or garlic and stir fry it.
  • Step 4:

  • -then add red chilli powder and turmeric and stir it.
  • Step 5:

  • -then add the cooked dal.
  • Step 6:

  • -add some water and allow it to boil for some time.
  • Step 7:

  • -then add the tamarind juice or tomato and jaggery and boil it again for some time.
  • Step 8:

  • -add some salt and stir it well.
  • Step 9:

  • -finally add coriander leaves.
