Plain Sponge Cake

A really delicious, scrumptious recipe for cake lovers.



  • 4oz/100g self-raising flour
  • 4oz/100g sugar (normal should be fine)
  • 4oz/100g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • or
  • 4oz/100g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4oz/100g sugar (normal should be fine)
  • 4oz/100g butter
  • 2 eggs


Whisk the butter and sugar.

add the eggs then flour.

mix to get a creamy batter.

put it in a cake tin with baking paper.

put it in the oven for 18-20 minutes on 200'c or more.

    very simple and easy cake to make
    great thanks for putting two types of recipes
    and i tried them both and there is no difference what so ever
    i recommend this recipe if you want a really quick cake to make
    and decorate it however you want!

    Thanks for sharing this easy recipe. I tried making it with plain flour and baking soda but something went horribly wrong...I did use a different brand of baking soda...This could have been the issue. I then tried it again with self raising flour, which worked perfectly....that said I want to get the plain flour recipe right.

    The sponge cake is simple and delicious . it tastes wonderful when you add fresh strawberries,strawberry jam and whipped cream or iced butter ;)

    My mom said to get a simple recipe i'm a kid and i'm great at baking i can cook all types of pie's very good and brownies and mostly everything i Love baking this helped me alot!.

    I am only 7 but I've got my own laptop so I found this and baked it. By my self! It was delicious, please make more of these cakes, I LOVE THEM! I want to make videos "How to bake a CAKE!' But I don't know how! Could you give me some advice?
