Treacle Sponge In A Mug

A delicious sticky sponge



  • 50g margarine
  • 50g sugar
  • 50g self raising flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 table spoons of golden syrup


Put sugar, margarine, flour and egg in a mixing bowl.

Mix until just smooth.

Put a tablespoon of syrup into 2 mugs.

Put half the mix into each mug on top of the syrup.

Microwave for about a minute. Depends on your power of your microwave. You will know it is done when the mixture rises to nearly the top of the mug.

Leave for about a minute and then with a knife loosen around the edge. Turn upside down onto a plate and shake a little. The sponge should come out.

Serve with custard or ice-cream.

    For those who don't want to measure:
    3.5 tablespoons margarine
    3.5 tablespoons self raising flour
    3.5 tablespoons sugar
    1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    1 medium egg


    1 tablespoon of golden syrup in each mug

    Microwave until it rises to top of mug (mine took almost 3 minutes)

    To make it more moist put a teaspoon of oil in it and also some vanilla extract for flavouring, however it's a nice recipe even though it tastes maybe a bit too eggy.

    Works better if you split it into 3 mugs onstead of 2.

    Get a bit more golden syrup in the bottom, it won't be dry then!

    Just what you need when you need something quick to satisfy a pudding craving in less than a few minutes. A little dry but nothing a bit of cream couldn't fix !
