Put sugar, margarine, flour and egg in a mixing bowl.
Mix until just smooth.
Put a tablespoon of syrup into 2 mugs.
Put half the mix into each mug on top of the syrup.
Microwave for about a minute. Depends on your power of your microwave. You will know it is done when the mixture rises to nearly the top of the mug.
Leave for about a minute and then with a knife loosen around the edge. Turn upside down onto a plate and shake a little. The sponge should come out.
Serve with custard or ice-cream.
