Tips and Variations
A great addition to this pea soup recipe is adding some crunch component, like croutons on top to give it more depth. Or just having a slice of pita bread or toasted baguette on the side could really elevate this dish.
If you’re wondering if there’s a benefit of using fresh peas versus frozen, there isn’t any difference. Fresh peas will give you more bright and vibrant flavors while frozen ones will have a more concentrated sweetness, but there’s no real perk to having fresh rather than frozen.
If you don’t have vegetable stock, chicken or bone stock (for those that aren’t vegetarian) will work just fine. And if you don’t have heavy cream, which will give it a creamy and rich texture, you can add Greek yogurt, sour cream or even coconut milk.
And lastly, for those that want some meat, adding ham in pea soup is a great way to add some salty, smoky flavors and get a bit more protein out of your meal.
