Ingredients
- 1 pound chicken tenders
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/4 cup cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup frying oil (reserved from the skillet)
- Pickles (optional)
- White bread slices (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce. Add the chicken tenders and let them marinate for 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours in the fridge for extra flavour).
- In another bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Remove the chicken tenders from the buttermilk marinade, letting the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure a good coating.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F. Fry the chicken tenders in batches for 5–7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F). Place the fried chicken on a wire rack to drain.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cayenne pepper, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Gradually stir in 1/2 cup of the hot frying oil until well combined.
- Brush the hot sauce over the fried chicken tenders while they’re still warm.
- Serve the Nashville hot chicken tenders with pickles and slices of white bread. Enjoy!
