San Choy Bow (Lettuce Cups)

A delicious recipe for Chinese lettuce cups!



  • 500g of pork mince (you can also use chicken mince)
  • 8 x iceberg lettuce leaves (the smallish, inner leaves)
  • 4 x spring onions, chopped
  • 1 x can of water chestnuts, chopped
  • 2 x cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 x red chilli's, chopped
  • 3 x large shiitake mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of peanut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons of hoisin sauce
  • 30ml of light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of dry sherry
  • 1 teaspoon of chinese chilli sauce


1. Heat oils in a pan and cook garlic, ginger, spring onions and chilli's for about two mins

2. Add mince and stir-fry until cooked

3. Add hoisin, soy sauce, dry sherry and chilli sauce, stir through

4. Stir in chestnuts, mushrooms and coriander, cook for about five minutes

5. Remove from heat and serve up mixture in lettuce cups
