American Pancakes

(scotch pancakes, dropped scones)



  • 4 oz sugar
  • 2 oz self raising flour
  • pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp water


Mix dry ingedients in bowl

Add egg and water

Beat with wooden spoon till lumps have gone

grease frying pan with a little oil or butter.

low heat 3min (or till golden) each side.

serves 3-4.

    If they are too runny then don't put the water in, I never do when I make them. Also, you don't need baking powder if you're using self-raising and cook them until you see bubbles then flip them over... it's seriously easy, just do it in a standard non stick frying pan and you don't need oil. and make sure you pre heat the pan so that they start cooking straight away or they'll be bad.

    They work fine and are pretty good if you follow the recipe right you twats, and why would they need baking powder if it is self-raising flour?

    iv put on like some weight recently so i wouldnt know much really ..speaking of which does anyone know any good weight loss tips like proper fat and its like a proper problem innit? Is it just normal to get really fat at any age? xxxxx tap back xxx

    Very sugary but this can be adjusted to each individuals taste! 5 stars.

    They dont need baking powder because its self-raising flour. iif it was plain flour you would need it, but it should work either way. Plus add a tsp of vanilla essence if you have it... so good.

    Yes, I have made american pancakes before and they do have baking powder in them. But they do taste really really goooood especially with maple syrup and strawberrys xx

    i fort it wernt gonna work cuz it was to thick but as soon as it went in the pan it fined out!! good job

    American Pancakes have baking powder in them. For this recipe it would be 1 teaspoon :)
