Preheat oven to 350°f (177°c).
STEP 2:

sift the flour and baking powder together. Set aside.
STEP 3:
butter
cream
in another large bowl, cream the butter with an electric mixer until smooth.
STEP 4:
sugar
add the sugar gradually and beat about 3-4 minutes.
STEP 5:
eggs
add the eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
STEP 6:
vanilla
beat in the vanilla.
STEP 7:
flour
milk
finally, add flour mixture alternately with milk.
STEP 8:
bake for 25-40 minutes until the cake springs back when touched.
