The new drink will join a group of menu items with a cult-like following, including the Nacho Fries, Mexican Pizza, the Crunchwrap Supreme, and even the Grilled Cheese Burrito.
This will be the first permanent new Mountain Dew Baja Blast flavor in two decades, and will help push Taco Bell further up in the beverage category.

History of Taco Bell and the Baja Blast
The Baja Blast was created over 20 years ago when Mountain Dew and Taco Bell collaborated to create the tropical soda. The flavor was originally only sold at Taco Bell locations, but the drink became so popular that the parent company, PepsiCo, started selling the drink seasonally in stores about a decade after its creation.
Today, there have been many iterations of the popular soda, from the Baja Blast Freeze to the Baja Blast Gelato, a boozy version in 2022, and the highly anticipated Baja Blast Pie releasing later this year.
However, this new Baja Blast flavor is in celebration of Baja Blast’s 21st birthday.
New Baja Blast Flavor: Baja Midnight
Taco Bell and Mountain Dew are going back to their roots for this 21-year anniversary. The new Baja Blast flavor will only be available at Taco Bell restaurants.
Called Baja Midnight, the drink was originally announced at Live Más Live 2025. It will feature the classic tropical lima soda, but have a passionfruit flavor twist.
In a press release, Taco Bell stated that this “evolution builds on the Baja Blast legacy while introducing modern flavors that reflect the vibrant tastes of today.”
Along with the passionfruit flavor, the soda will be a dark purple color.

When Does the Baja Midnight Come Out?
Baja Midnight is hitting the Taco Bell menu on August 14th. The best part about it? The soda flavor is here to stay.
Instead of being a limited-time menu item, the Baja Midnight will join Taco Bell’s permanent drinks menu, alongside its predecessors, Baja Blast and Baja Blast Freeze.
The Baja Midnight Freeze, however, will only be available for a limited time.
A New Focus on Beverages
The new Baja Blast flavor comes on a wave of increased beverage sales.
Taco Bell aims to grow its beverage sales to $5 billion within the next five years, doing so with new drinks aimed at Gen Z drinkers and a beverage-themed café. The company also aims to invest in chicken options, new sides, and international expansion.
Taco Bell’s new beverage-forward Live Más Café has already gotten off to a great start, with a 40% boost in sales, with customers buying more than 300 drinks daily.
