This Crème Fraîche tuna pasta meal is perfect to make in a pinch because you can have a warm and homemade dinner on the table in under 20 minutes. It’s not only easy, but also nutritious because the tuna adds protein and minerals, the peppers and onion add fiber and vitamins, and lastly, the Crème Fraîche adds calcium thanks to the dairy.

Canned tuna can be far more luxurious than it seems. Sure, it’s cheap and comes in a can from the aisles in your grocery store, but it is actually malleable to many recipes. Plus, when you buy tuna, it can live on your shelves for a decent amount of time and therefore, is a no-brainer the next time you’re shopping for dinner supplies. If you’re making soup, casseroles, or pasta dishes, you can probably add tuna for an extra bite of protein. However, since it is one of the meatier fishes on the market, your meal won’t necessarily taste like fish.

Maybe that’s an unpopular opinion because tuna does smell fishy, but once you disguise it in some flavors like cheese, Crème Fraîche, peppers, and onions, you won’t even be able to smell or taste that tuna-specific flavor. As a result, with these ingredients, you have the tools to make an excellent pasta that everyone in your household will love.

What Is Crème Fraîche?

Crème Fraîche is French-style cream that is made from cow’s milk, so it has a nutty flavor and is very rich to taste. The only ingredient in Crème Fraîche is pasteurized cultured cream, so it’s all natural and perfect for people who love dairy. There are many brands that make Crème Fraîche, but one of our favorites is from the Vermont Creamery. Since it is a kind of cream, it is high in fat and low in protein. However, it is unbelievably delicious and adds the perfect touch to any pasta dish.

If you can’t find Crème Fraîche in your grocery store (hopefully you can), you can make it at home by combining heavy cream and buttermilk. This will separate the curds that we need for the Crème Fraîche, which is exactly how pre-made Crème Fraîche in the store came to be.

Some people compare Crème Fraîche to sour cream, but it’s not quite as tart. It’s also much thicker in consistency than sour cream, which can get watery. Crème Fraîche is extremely fresh and most closely resembles cream cheese in my opinion. However, it’s flavor is rich and nutty, not sour, so it adds a depth in flavor to salty and acidic pasta dishes. That’s exactly why we added it to this Crème Fraîche tuna pasta recipe.
