Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (white or sourdough work best)
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (or your favourite melting cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place two slices of bread buttered-side down on a cutting board. Add two slices of cheese to each piece of bread, then top with the remaining bread slices, buttered-side up.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  4. Place the sandwiches in the skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes on one side, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden brown. Flip the sandwiches and cook for another 2–3 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted.
  5. Slice the sandwiches in half and serve warm. Pair with tomato soup for a classic combo, if desired.
