Vegetable Dumplings Ingredients

  • 1 cup of cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup of carrot, grated
  • 1/2 cup of tofu, crumbled
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 30 round dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup water (for steaming)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Vegetable Dumplings Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chopped cabbage, grated carrot, crumbled tofu, green onions, and minced garlic. Mix until everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, and ground ginger, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well so the filling is fully combined and coated with the seasonings.
  3. Place one dumpling wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Keep the rest of the wrappers covered with a damp towel so they do not dry out while you work.
  4. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of filling into the center of the wrapper. Be careful not to overfill, which can make the wrapper harder to seal.
  5. Lightly wet the edge of the wrapper with water using your finger. Fold the wrapper over the filling to form a half-moon shape, then press the edges together to seal. You can pleat the edges if you want a more traditional look.
  6. Continue filling and sealing the remaining wrappers until all of the dumplings are assembled.
  7. Heat the vegetable oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
  8. Arrange the dumplings in the skillet in a single layer with the flat side down. Cook for 3 minutes, or until the bottoms are nicely golden brown.
  9. Carefully add the water to the skillet, then cover right away with a lid to trap the steam. Let the dumplings steam for 10 minutes so the filling cooks through and the wrappers become tender.
  10. Remove the lid and remove the liquid. Cook for another 2 minutes to crisp the bottoms again before serving.
