Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until the sauce is well combined.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and serve immediately.
