Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 6 hamburger buns
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until the sauce is well combined.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
- Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and serve immediately.
