Adding protein to your diet just got so much easier now that Starbucks has added new protein drinks to its menu.
Recently, making sure you’re eating enough protein throughout the day has become a top priority for many. If you want to work on a healthier lifestyle, protein and fiber are where you start. And now, Starbucks has made sure it can help customers by adding new drinks and cold foams to the menu.
The new lineup is to help modernize its menu and to help stay relevant now that more people are opting for protein shakes with their espresso in the morning. And now, starting Monday, September 29, the new menu items are available.
“As we continue to get back to Starbucks, we’re focused on modernizing our menu with innovative, relevant, and hype-worthy products that will resonate with our customers,” said Tressie Lieberman, Starbucks’ global chief brand officer. “Our new protein beverages tap into the growing consumer demand for protein in an innovative, premium, and delicious way that only Starbucks can deliver.”
So what can you expect from the chain now? There are one of two options: Lattes or cold foams. Cold foams are a fan-favorite at Starbucks, but now you can add a boost of protein, which has about 15 grams of protein per grande, to any cold beverage.

Their “cold foam is a creamy, frothy topping that adds texture and flavor to any cold coffee, tea, or Refreshers, creating a delicious, layered drink.” And for those who enjoy their cold foams, you can try the protein cold foams in a new banana flavor, vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, chocolate, matcha, salted caramel, and brown sugar. They also have seasonal cold foams right now with pumpkin and pecan.
Their lattes, on the other hand, are created with protein-boosted milk that delivers “approximately 27 to 36 grams of protein per grande beverage while maintaining the rich, bold flavor and smooth texture customers know and love.”
Existing drinks on the menu may be customized with these protein options; for instance, cold foam can be added for an additional $2, and protein-based milk can be added to hot or cold drinks for $1 (though prices may vary by store).

Starbucks also offers specialty creations for the menu additions, including:
- Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha: Unsweetened matcha balanced with milk and topped with banana protein cold foam (24 grams of protein per grande)
- Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte: Rich espresso and milk topped with vanilla protein cold foam (26 grams of protein per grande)
- Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew: Cold brew with vanilla syrup and chocolate protein cold foam (19 grams of protein per grande)
According to their site, Starbucks uses whey protein isolate, a dairy-based protein known for its complete amino acid profile. It’s unflavored and not made with gluten. Be sure to head to your nearest Starbucks today to check out their new protein menu items.
